VietNamNet Bridge – The Viet Nam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (VAVA) yesterday, June 22, called on people across the country and international friends to further support Agent Orange victims in their daily lives and fight for justice.

The association delivered the message on the first day of the 50-day programme to commemorate 50th years since Agent Orange/dioxin was first sprayed in South Viet Nam on August 10, 1961.

In the message, the association said nearly five million Vietnamese people were exposed to dioxin and three million suffer from health problems due to the exposure.

It requested the US take responsibility for the damage it caused to Vietnamese people, asking American chemical companies – first of all, Down Chemicals and Monsanto companies – which supplied dioxin to the US army to spray in the country to recognise their wrongdoing.

The association applauded international activities and sentiments towards the AO victims.

Supporting Vietnamese AO victims as well as victims of all kinds of chemical weapons in the world was an active contribution to the cause of long-term justice and long-lasting peace protection, the association said.

All donations should be sent to the Vietnamese AO Victims Fund, account 00311 0123 4005; at the Military Bank's Thanh Xuan branch in Ha Noi or its international account for Viet Nam dong account 00110 0086 3681, for US dollar 00113 7086 3710, for Euro 00111 4086 3770 opened at the Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam or directly to the association at No 35 Ho Me Tri Street, Nhan Chinh Ward, Thanh Xuan District, Ha Noi.
