The Vietnam Cyber Emergency Response Center (VNCERT/CC), under the Authority of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications), has issued a warning about a new form of phishing that uses AI and spoofing technology to steal Gmail login information.

According to VNCERT/CC, a sophisticated phishing campaign is underway globally, exploiting AI and spoofing technology to steal users' Gmail login information. The scam involves fake emails and phone calls mimicking Google, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to create realistic messages and calls, tricking users into providing sensitive information.

Specifically, scammers send fake emails that appear to be from Google, asking users to follow a process to recover their accounts. The email contains a link to a fake website designed to look like the real Gmail login page, where it captures the user's login information.

Approximately 40 minutes after receiving the phishing email, the user gets a fake call from someone posing as a Google support agent, warning of unusual activity on their Gmail account. The scammers further employ AI-generated voices and phone number spoofing software to make the call seem authentic.

Experts at VNCERT/CC warned that this new form of phishing puts Gmail users worldwide at risk of having their login credentials and personal data stolen. Users and administrators are advised to be cautious of calls from numbers that appear to be from Google and to always carefully check the sender's email address.

In cases of suspicion, users should refrain from sharing sensitive information over the phone or email.
