CIO Summit 2024, an important event for Vietnam's top IT leaders, was held by CIO Vietnam on October 3 in HCM City. With the boom of AI, a new concept has been generated – AI transformation. A question was raised at the first session of the event about whether enterprises’ AI transformation would fully replace digital transformation.

Dang Hai Anh, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of PNJ, said digital transformation is an ocean current of many technologies, and AI is a significant difference in comparison with other technologies such as Cloud, Blockchain and IoT (Internet of Things).

The fleet must be good enough to avoid being sunk. CIOs must be flexible and dynamic to give advice to business leaders so they will accept the transformation and pursue sustainability.

Anh believes that while other technologies are inclined towards enterprises’ switching to automation, AI relates to intelligence and will provide more ‘grey matter’ to enterprises in the time to come.

Becamex IDC CIO Pham Tuan Anh noted that digital transformation has been repeatedly mentioned in the last 5-7 years. Though it covers a large sphere, it is built on three major pillars – process, technology, and human resources.

Of these, the awareness of leaders plays an important role. AI is considered a technological tool that hastens digital transformation.

According to Anh, AI transformation in enterprises includes automation to smartization, i.e. making institutions and enterprises become smarter. However, the transformation is complicated and the performance depends heavily on enterprises’ leaders.

The role of CIOs is to help enterprise leaders, especially those who don’t have deep understanding about technology, understand that transformation creates new values.

Vo Tan Long from MSB said that AI will be indispensable in the future. There are different forms of digital transformation, including technologies to automate processes and AI to make enterprises smarter.

Tran Viet Huan, CTO of Son Kim Group, said that AI has changed business models and supports digital transformation. Many operations at enterprises are now undertaken by AI.

Vu Thai Ha from eDoctor noted that AI represents a period in the digital transformation process. Enterprises follow a transformation process: from standardization to automation to smartization.
