As heavy rains and flooding continue to affect northern Vietnam, Regiment 916 of Division 371, part of the Air Defense-Air Force, has activated emergency plans for aerial search and rescue missions.

The unit has been on high alert since Typhoon Yagi threatened Vietnam's coastline, with flight crews and rescue teams standing by 24/7 to respond to any emergencies.

Lieutenant Vu Anh Tuan, Chief Parachute Officer of Regiment 916, emphasized the importance of readiness and resilience in the face of challenges posed by extreme weather conditions.

“All soldiers, especially our pilots and flight crew members, must uphold the revolutionary spirit of the Army and the Air Defense-Air Force. In any situation, we must overcome difficulties and dangers, always prioritizing the safety of the people,” he said.

The regiment’s mission involves not only aerial support but also ground teams ready to provide on-site assistance in severely affected areas. Teams have already been dispatched to regions hit hardest by the storm, and preparations are underway for further action as soon as weather conditions allow for safe flight operations.

Once conditions stabilize, the regiment’s helicopters will take off, carrying critical supplies and equipment to areas cut off by floodwaters. Rescue teams will work to locate and assist stranded victims, offering relief to communities struggling to cope with the devastation caused by the floods and landslides.

The Air Force’s involvement highlights the military’s crucial role in disaster response, with soldiers trained to operate in hazardous conditions to save lives. As northern Vietnam braces for continued rainfall and potential flooding, Regiment 916 remains ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.
