The move was made after some carriers including Vietjet and Bamboo Airways recently started charging passengers up to VND140,000 (USD6.08) for quick check-in services at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City, a move that has angered passengers.
According to CAAV deputy head Dinh Viet Son, they have worked with some airlines and airports about the paid check-in services that have been provided at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports and found that they were not suitable at the moment and should be closed.
"The practice of charging extra fees for quick check-in procedures may affect service quality, negatively affect the interests of other customers, and cause public discontent," he explained.
Meanwhile, this service provided to some passengers won't resolve congestion issues at the airports, as all passengers still have to go through available security checkpoints.
The official noted that check-in procedures are part of an airport's commercial services provided in accordance with regulations issued by the Ministry of Transport. Therefore, any adjustment to these services needs to be proposed to CAAV before they are applied.
