Despite no official announcement yet on the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday schedule, Vietnamese airlines have already opened sales for Tet flight tickets. Prices on high-demand routes are already exceptionally high.

Nearly five months ahead of Tet Binh Ngo 2025, which falls in early 2026, domestic airlines began offering Tet tickets at the end of August 2025. The tickets are valid for travel between February 2 and March 3, 2026 (from the 15th day of the twelfth lunar month to the 15th day of the first lunar month).

Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO) began its first sales phase on September 3, with over 3.5 million seats available for both domestic and international routes, marking a nearly 20% increase from the previous year.

The focus remains on high-demand routes connecting Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City with key destinations like Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Hue, Quy Nhon, Cam Ranh, and Phu Quoc.

Seat capacity on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route increased by nearly 18%, Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang by almost 9%, and Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, and Hue by 9%-13%. Vietnam Airlines has also boosted international services to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Singapore to accommodate growing Tet travel demand.

Notably, during Tet Binh Ngo 2025 (which aligns with early 2026 in the Gregorian calendar), nearly 20% of Vietnam Airlines’ flights will be scheduled in early morning or late-night time slots.

Earlier on August 28, Vietjet Air announced the early release of 2.5 million Tet tickets for flights from February 3 to March 2, 2026.

For example, tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc start at VND 610,000 (approx. USD 25), excluding taxes and fees. Routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Buon Ma Thuot start at around VND 1 million (approx. USD 41). Tickets to Hanoi, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, and Hai Phong are priced from VND 1.61 million (approx. USD 66), while return tickets on less busy routes may start at zero dong before taxes and fees.

So far, a total of 6 million Tet tickets have been released. Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines have yet to disclose their Tet ticketing plans.

Depending on market demand, aircraft availability, and allocated time slots, Vietnam Airlines Group and Vietjet plan to release additional ticket batches.

Ticket prices spike on key travel days

From February 10-11, 2026 (the 23rd day of the lunar twelfth month), ticket prices rise sharply, especially on high-traffic routes.

For instance, round-trip tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi start at VND 6.36 million (approx. USD 261) for departures on the 24th lunar day, rising to VND 6.78 million (USD 278) for the 25th, and peaking at VND 7.3 million (USD 300) for return flights on the 5th and 6th days of the lunar new year. These prices include taxes and fees.

Tickets on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa and Vinh are even higher, ranging from VND 7 million to VND 7.45 million (USD 287 - USD 305). The Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong route is also priced at around VND 7.3 million (USD 300) round-trip.

In light of rising demand, domestic carriers are urging passengers to book tickets early to avoid shortages or price surges. Airlines also recommend booking only through official agents, ticketing offices, or the airline’s app to avoid fake tickets and scams.
