The other prize went to HCM City-based Architecture Construction South Company (ACSA) for its design of Lien Khuong Airport in Da Lat.

The competition, considered the most important architectural award in Viet Nam, is organised by the Viet Nam Architects Association, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The 5ha Ha Noi-Amsterdam High School, worth VND470 billion (US$22.5 million), opened last September, said Phan Duy Dong, one of architects who designed the work.

The school has classes with modern equipment, a swimming pool and football ground.

Lien Khuong Airport is located in Duc Trong District in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong.

The association also awarded 10 second prizes, 21 third prizes and 11 fourth prizes.

The works included buildings, designs for exteriors and interiors – and even publications that analyse and criticise the industry.

Criteria used for assessment included the application of new technologies to save energy or to make buildings more environmentally friendly.

The combination of traditional and modern design elements and creations that harmonise with the terrain were also taken into account.

The winners will receive their prizes on April 23 and 24 to mark Viet Nam Architecture Day on April 27.

The prize was founded in 1994 and is held every two years.
