In more than 20 years operating in Vietnam, environment protection has been the top priority of Ajinomoto Vietnam. Under the global policy of the Ajinomoto Group on sustainable environment, Ajinomoto Vietnam has not only strictly respected Vietnam's laws on environment but also considered environment protection an important responsibility.

Ajinomoto Vietnam has applied the ISO 14001 - 2004 standards and the zero-emission policy in order to minimize wastes discharged during the production process, including wastewater, solid waste and gas emission.

The company has invested US$10 million in an advanced wastewater treatment system, using Japanese microorganism technology. Therefore, wastewater discharged by Ajinomoto Vietnam factories meets level A, higher than Vietnam's standards. The wastewater is also recycled for use again by the factories, through which minimizes the volume of wastewater discharged to the environment.

Also, Ajinomoto Vietnam always meets Vietnam's regulations on gas emission. By using natural gas such as LPG and CNG, the company has significantly reduced CO2 and SO2 to satisfy the standard of less than 1,080 mg/m3.

For solid waste, waste classification is controlled strictly at Ajinomoto Vietnam's factories. The recycling ratio is over 97 percent and up to 100 percent for industrial dust from chimney mixed with active carbon residue and fibrous waste.

Ajinomoto Vietnam has also applied other initiatives that are good for the environment, including the use of natural inputs such as sugarcane, cassava, rice, soybean … in production and use of advanced technology to produce Ami-Ami bio-organic fertilizer for agriculture production. This product helps remain balance and sustainability for natural environment, contributing to agriculture development.

Not only implementing measures to protect the environment within its factories, Ajinomoto Vietnam has held many annual events to promote awareness on environment of its employees and people living around its factories, such as “Clean up Our Earth Together Day", “Mottainai Campaign” and "Eco-Action" among others.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Deputy General Director of Ajinomoto Vietnam - said: "The actions and programs that our company has implemented are just restricted within the company with over 2,000 people. The results that we have achieved will be meaningless without the contribution of other individuals and organizations to the country's green - clean - beautiful environment."

For its efforts in protecting the environment, Ajinomoto Vietnam was granted the “Green Brand” prize for outstanding business in environment protection and development based on sustainable environment in Vietnam.
