VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese movie “Floating Life” was screened at the Billy Wider theater in California last week. The director and leading actors talked with the audience after the show.

 

The movie, which is based on a story by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu, was invited by the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to participate in the New Voices from Vietnam program, which introduces new Vietnamese movies in the US.

 

At the talks after the show, William Horberg, the producer of The Quiet American and Milk, said briefly: “Floating Lives is a strong movie about human fate. For that reason, as a member of the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, I want to introduce this film in the US.”

 

Being held from November 5-14 in California, New Voices from Vietnam is the first program that honors outstanding Vietnamese movies produced in the last 10 years.

 

Besides Floating Lives, 16 other titles will be introduced to American audience this time, including: six feature films Bi, Don’t be Afraid, Floating Lives, Moon at the Bottom of the Well, Lonely, Clash and The Owl and Sparrow,  six documentaries Mother and Daughter, Thanh Cong ward has Thanh Cong village, Grandfather and Niece, Daddy Returns Home, I Dream to become a Worker, My Tenement and four short films Going to the Light, The Damned,  New Year’s Eve has passed and Terrace.

 

On this occasion, the program organizers will honor director Dang Nhat Minh for his contribution to Vietnam’s movie industry.

 

Vietnamese delegation will visit some big studios in Hollywood and meet with their American colleagues.
