With a remarkable aptitude for singing Vietnamese songs, American singer Kyo York will stage a concert called “Ve noi nuong nau” (back to the shelter) to mark the 15th death anniversary of popular Vietnamese composer Trinh Cong Son and raise funds for local orphans and disabled kids at 7:30 p.m. on March 30 at Hotel Continental Saigon.

The event will also feature around 100 invited artists, including popular stars like Cam Van, Thai Hoa, Nguyen Hong An, Hong Hanh, Ai Phuong, Truong Thu, Dieu Hien, Bao Nghi, Nguyen The Vinh and Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc. It is expected to attract about 200 spectators.
According to Kyo York, the event is sponsored by Hoa Sen Group and all the proceeds will go directly to Huong Duong foundation, which was set up by musician Nguyen The Vinh to support disabled kids, and Dau an yeu thuong (mark of love) foundation where Kyo York serves as an ambassador.
Trinh Cong Son was one of the country’s greatest musicians. He was well known for songs about humanity that has captivated millions of Vietnamese and foreigners.
He died on April 1, 2001 in HCMC, formerly Saigon. Overseas Vietnamese singer Khanh Ly has been associated with his songs as she is the most successful performer of his music.
Kyo York, who has lived in Vietnam for five years, is the first foreign singer to host a Trinh Cong Son music concert.
