VietNamNet Bridge – The last Vietnamese fencer Vu Thanh An exited the Rio Olympics yesterday (Aug 11) after registering one win and one loss in the men’s sabre event.

An, an Asian championship bronze medallist, defeated Olympic silver medallist Diego Occhiuzzi of Italy 15-12 in the last-16.

An, who carried the national flag at the opening ceremony, advanced to the last eight and lost 8-15 to world number five Vincent Anstett of France.

An was among four fencers in the Viet Nam team.

Earlier, his teammates Nguyen Thi Nhu Hoa, Nguyen Thi Le Dung and Do Thi Anh ended their Olympic debut in early rounds.
