On May 26-27, a landslide occurred along the 120m section of the Hau riverbank, in Binh Khanh ward in Long Xuyen city. Six houses and an ice making factory fell into the river.
On May 28, four more houses began to sink and crack while 20 others were in danger. All people were excavated urgently.
The provincial authorities declared a state of emergency in this area. All families in the dangerous area were removed. Families who live along the riverside have been warned of the danger. The riverside is now guarded 24/7.

Mr. Tran Anh Thu, deputy director of the local Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said that there are many holes of at least 20m deep on the river-bottom, the section crossing Binh Duc ward, which can cause landslide for 4.3km of riverbank. If these holes are not handled, landslide area will expand.
An Giang authorities have assigned the local Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to deal with these holes.
While landslides along the Hau River has not been solved, a landslide has been reported along the Tien River, with 19 houses fell into the water on May 29.
