VietNamNet Bridge - With the support of his team, young cyclist Ho Huynh Van An maintained his yellow jersey in the sixth stage of the Mekong Delta Cycling Tour-An Giang Plant Protection Cup on August 19.

The 108km sixth stage was a short race so it saw many attacks by young cyclists to reach the finish line. The average speed of cyclists was 46.437kmph when racers reached the finish line.

After the 30km opener, there were five cyclists including Le Ngoc Son, Dang Thanh Thai, Nguyen Vu Linh of Domesco Dong Thap 2, Nguyen Huynh Phu Loc of the Military Zone 7 and Dang Ngoc Tu of Dong Nai leading the race. And Son won 10 points for the green jersey.

However, An Giang Plant Protection team showed their strong performance as they kept up with these five cyclists in the last 15km. As a result, An defended his yellow jersey after six stages with an overall time of 17hr 4min 9sec. Truong Nguyen Thanh Nhan of Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 and Nguyen Truong Tai of Domesco Dong Thap were in second and third, respectively.

This stage from Can Tho City to Tra Vinh Town saw a dramatic sprint finish that was won by Chau Hong Hau of Domesco Dong Thap 2. He completed the stage in a time of 2:20.27.

Youngster Ho Hoang Son of ADC-Vinh Long Television and Nguyen Thanh Tuan of Can Tho City came second and third, respectively.

Finishing fifth in the stage race, veteran Le Van Duan of Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 won the green jersey with 69 points.

In the team race, Sai Gon Plant Protection 1 took the lead after six stages with a combined time of 51:14.02, followed by An Giang Plant Protection 1 and Sai Gon Plant Protection 2.

Today, cyclists will pedal the seventh 107km stage from Ben Tre City to Cao Lanh City in the morning and the last 40km stage with 30 laps around Cao Lanh City in the afternoon.
