Young Vietnamese take part in a dance performance based on images found at a prehistoric archaeological site of the Oc Eo culture in the southeastern province of An Giang.

Images of female dancers playing musical instruments are carved on rocks, pottery and other antiquities of the Oc Eo era of about 2,000 years ago, according to Nguyen Huu Gieng, head of the management board of the Oc Eo Culture Archaeological Site.

People’s Artist Dang Hung of the Vietnam Dancers Association and musician Truong Ba Trang said they had tried to simulate what they thought would be the rhythm, tone, and movements of the dance.

The dance performance, accompanied by traditional music, was held before hundreds of people on July 11 in Thoai Son District, where the archaeological site is located.

An Giang Province officials have given priority to the preservation of the Oc Eo culture.
