Cracks have been found on the pedestrian road along Huong River

The road work which was started in July this year is part of a planning project along the two banks of Huong River. It has been designed to be 400 metres long and four metres wide. Its surface will use a rare and valuable Lim (Erythrophleum fordii) wood and the hand-rail will be also set up on the street.

The project will cost VND52.9 billion (USD2.3 million). The road construction is still underway, but many cracks have been seen on it.

Nguyen Viet Bang, deputy head of the project management board, said that he sent some staff to check the road construction to find verify the information about the cracks.

The project management board insisted that Lim is kind of rare timber which is solid and durable. The wood imported from South Africa suits the Vietnamese climate.

The public previously aired concerns whether Lim wood could adapt to the severe climate condition in Thua Thien-Hue.

According to Chairman of Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thanh, Lim wood for the street surface is expected to offer something new on the banks of the Huong River.

The Huong River planning project funded by Korea International Co-operation Agency covers a total area of nearly 840 hectares.
