VietNamNet Bridge – Animals Asia said it has successfully rescued a moon bear that had been kept in a cage for more than 10 years.

"The pig-chopping festival has been a traditional event for hundreds of years for the villagers of Nem Thuong, so it is not easy to stop it immediately," the deputy director of the Department of Culture of Bac Ninh Province has said.

Many people from Nem Thuong Village say the pig-chopping rite aims to educate children about the heroic, indomitable tradition and the spirit of solidarity felt against the enemy of the army, led by the village tutelary.
