Nearly 200 stalls offering traditional and international cakes will be open at the annual Southern Traditional Cakes Festival in the southern city of Can Tho from April 25-29.

Last year, the Southern Traditional Cakes Festival in the southern city of Can Tho attracted 500,000 visitors. 

Themed “The Origin of Homeland Cakes”, the event is held every year on the occasion of the Hung Kings’ death anniversary (10th day of the third lunar month) and aims to preserve the traditional culinary art as well as promote local cake trademarks, said Le Van Tam, vice chairman of Can Tho City’s People’s Committee.

He said among the cake stalls, 100 will display Vietnamese traditional cakes and the rest of the stalls will feature other kinds of Vietnamese delicacies and cakes from France, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Italy, Thailand and South Korea.

There will also be live baking sessions, besides games and contests for visitors.

The organisers will decorate the venue to turn it into a historical platform for ancient and contemporary culinary arts. There will be buffet stalls for cakes, a floating market and an entertainment area for children.

“We plan to organise the festival in a way that visitors will enjoy not only the food but also the landscape,” Tam said.

The festival will be held at 108A, Le Loi Street, Cai Khe Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City.

Last year, the event attracted 500,000 visitors. — VNS
