VietNamNet Bridge – The vice chief of the Steering Board for Anti-corruption of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, Nguyen Hung Dung, has to explain to the city’s Inspection Committee why his name and position was on the cover of his son’s wedding invitation.

For a week, the wedding of this official’s son has become a hot topic of local people since the son’s wedding invitations were noted with the name and position of the father. They queried that the wedding is held to share the happiness of the young couple to two families and friends, why the name and the position of the groom’s father was on the cover?

A local entrepreneur said he was not close to the official’s family but he was still invited to the wedding. Seeing Dung’s high position, he was compliant to attend the wedding party at noon of September 5.

The wedding party attendants said the party was held at a restaurant near the office of the Municipal Communist Party Committee. Over one hundred cars parked in front of the restaurant. All 90 dining tables were fully occupied.

Can Tho City’s Chair, Nguyen Thanh Son, chief of the local Steering Board for Anti-corruption, said that when he received the wedding invitation, he called Dung to remind him of the case. Dung said his name and position only appeared on several wedding invitations to local officials and he would learn from his mistake.

Dung told online newswire VNExpress that the wedding invitations were printed while he was on a business trip. His name and position was printed on the covers because in Can Tho, there are many men named Dung so his family was afraid of ‘mistaking’.

He said after his family sent over 100 wedding invitations, his superiors called him to remind him of the mistake. He asked his family to change the covers.

“It is totally wrong to have my name and position on covers of wedding invitations. I would like to accept the mistake. I’m explaining the case to the Can Tho Inspection Committee,” Dung said.
