According to Tuoi Tre’s source from the Office of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, there are seven serious cases that the Committee directly supervises. The Committee asked relevant agencies to report their procedures on the prosecution, investigation, etc. as well as the shortcomings, limitations, difficulties and problems associated with these seven cases.

The Committee also asked these agencies to make clear some contents of these cases.

In particular, the case of embezzlement of assets at the Vinalines Ship Repair Co., Ltd., related agencies have to report to the Committee about the offense and the persons involved in the case, and the process to arrest Duong Chi Dung, former director of the Vietnam Maritime Agency.

Earlier, on September 5, the Ministry of Public Security announced the arrest of Duong Chi Dung, who was charged of "intentionally violating state regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences" at the Vietnam Shipping Lines Group (Vinalines), under Article 165 of the Criminal Code.

Duong Chi Dung fled on May 17 before the investigating agency released the arrest and search warrants. Immediately after Dung fled, the police issued a special wanted warrant in Vietnam and in cooperation with the International Criminal Police (Interpol) to issue an international wanted warrant.

On September 4, police arrested Duong Chi Dung.

At the the Government's regular press conference in August, the Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Vu Duc Dam said the inspection of Vinalines, investigations, prosecution and applying specially preventive measures against Duong Chi Dung were conducted in accordance with the provisions of the law.

According to Mr. Dam, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who is also the Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, has closely directed this case from the beginning, as prescribed by law.
