Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has instructed that task forces be established to inspect, supervise and, if necessary, penalise cases of corruption at all levels.

The Office of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption will co-operate with other concerned agencies to work out a plan for the establishment of these organisations, under the instruction of Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc

The office has been asked to urge concerned agencies to prioritise large and on-going cases.

The Government Inspectorate will work with ministries and agencies to quicken research and revision of the Law on Anti-corruption for the submission to the National Assembly, which is up for consideration during the 4th session of the 13th National Assembly. The session will open in October.

The Ministry of Finance will take the lead in studying and revising the Law on Thrift Practice and Waste Combat, which will be submitted to the NA next year.

While waiting for these laws to be drafted, relative agencies and authorities at all levels have been strongly urged to take their own measures to detect and fight corruption.

According to the Government Inspectorate, 49 cases involving 67 people suspected of corruption have been discovered after the loss of VND132.7 billion (USD6.4 million) in the first six months of this year.

A number of corruption cases have already been brought to light by agencies and localities such as the State Bank of Vietnam and local authorities in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nghe An, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Kien Giang and Tien Giang.
