VietNamNet Bridge – The family of an arrestee who died in his detention room brought the body to the head-office of the Thoi Binh district authorities to claim innocence.



The victim's relatives surrounded the local government office on July 24.


Thoi Binh town was in chaos on July 24 when the dead body of Duong Van Thuong, 28, was placed in front of the gate of Thoi Binh district People’s Committee. Thuong was dead in his detention room and his family claimed innocence for his death. The incident attracted hundreds of curious people.

On July 23, Thoi Binh police arrested Thuong when this man used a hammer to attack a local man named Nguyen Van Thap.

Thuong was confined in the same room with ten others. In the detention room, Thuong fought with other arrestees and was killed. Those who caused Thuong’s death have not been identified.




Thuong’s family was informed of the man’s death on the afternoon of July 23. The next day, the family brought the corpse to the local government office to claim innocence.

The local authorities gave VND30 million ($1,500) to the family and asked them to take the corpse home for burying but the family did not accept.

The case is being investigated.
