Artists show colors of spring



Twenty-four artists at the Mekong Art Club have put on an arts exhibition called ‘Colors of the Spring’ at the HCMC Museum of Fine Arts to welcome the upcoming Tet holiday.

On display are nearly 130 pieces including paintings made of oil canvas, lacquer and sculptural works made of ceramic, terrace cotta, stone and bronze. Visitors to the museum will have a chance to admire the diversity in styles, creativeness in ideas and abundance of materials as well as meticulousness and dexterity given in each work.

The highlights of the exhibition are “Countryside’s marker” by artist Hong Linh, and “Memories of cyclos” in ceramic by artist Le Trieu Dien.

“Everyone often has memories in mind, and I not only live with beautiful memories but also express them through art so that those memories can be livelier and exists longer,” said Le Treu Dien.

Phu An continues to bring to visitors still-life paintings about fruits which look so real. “As a Mekong Delta resident, I want to introduce rustic images of my countryside’s fruits,” said An.

The show runs till January 15 at the museum, 97A Pho Duc Chinh Street, District 1.
 
Seminar on developing Asian cinematography

Filmmakers from the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam and Vietnamese students are participating in a seminar on developing cinematography in Vietnam and Asia which is taking place in Hanoi on January 9-10.

Stage director of the film “The King and the Clown”, Lee Joonik, and organizer of the Pusan International Film Festival, Kim Ji-seok, both from the Republic of Korea, are attending the event along with CEO of the Cambodian Film Commission, Cedric Eloy.

The Vietnamese Cinematography Department also invited foreign filmmakers to visit and propose some ideas about the Co Loa Relics.

The seminar provides an opportunity for filmmakers and managers in Vietnam to present the country’s development, hear ideas from foreign filmmakers and learn about the Asian cinematography network to develop the industry in Vietnam and advertise tourism.

Spring programme for OV in Hanoi

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Hanoi City People’s Committee, will co-host a spring programme for Overseas Vietnamese (OV) who return to their homeland for celebrations.

Foreign Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Son said the programme that will be televised live from Ba Dinh square which is being held in the first year of implementation of the 11th Party Congress’ Resolution and the socio-economic development plan for 2011-2015.

The programme will begin at 4pm with many activities including paying tribute at Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and offering incense at the Kinh Thien Palace of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and One Pillar Pagoda. Artistic performances will be staged from 8pm. Party and State leaders will meet with participants to wish them a happy new year.

A New Year’s Eve party for OV will also be held at Ho Chi Minh Museum as part of the programme.

Memoirs of Vietnamese soldiers in Cambodia published

A collection of memoirs by Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in Cambodia, ‘Dat Kim Cuong’ (Diamond Land) by Colonel Nguyen Van Hong, was published in Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province.

The books tell of the comradeship and lofty international spirit of the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who helped the Cambodians overturn Pol Pot’s genocidal regime and restore the country.

The book launch attracted writers, poets, and local historians, as well as veterans of the Cambodian war.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the 'Stones to Build the Spratly Islands' program through the Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper.

The launch was held jointly by the Thanh Nien (Young People) Publishing House, the Military Culture Magazine, and the Literature Publishing House to mark the 33rd anniversary of the victory over the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia and ‘Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2012’.

Vietnamese Designer House puts on first show

A fashion show featuring collections of young Vietnamese designers Thanh Hoa, Le Thuy, Bach Dat, Minh Ha, Kim Khanh and Tuan Huy will take place tonight at the Vietnamese Designer House, 16A Hai Ba Trung Street, District 1, HCMC.

Collections will present casual wear with young, cute and naughty styles.

The show will be attended by some Vietnamese celebrities such as Vu Thu Phuong, Binh Minh, Phuong Linh and Kha My Van.
