Keum Gi Hyung honoured with cultural insignia

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has presented the “For the Cause of Culture, Sports and Tourism” insignia to Keum Gi Hyung, Director of the Republic of Korea Culture Centre in Vietnam.

The presentation ceremony took place in Hanoi on August 13 to acknowledge his contributions to cultural, sports and tourism exchanges between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Keum Gi Hyung said during three years of living in Vietnam he was very impressed by recent cultural exchanges between the two countries in preparation for the London Olympics 2012.

Vietnam and the RoK successfully co-ordinated in voting for Vietnam’s Halong Bay and the RoK’s Jeju Island to become one of 7 new World Natural Wonders, he noted.

Vietnamese expats in East Europe on film

A 33-episode drama featuring lives of Vietnamese expatriates in Eastern European countries will be introduced to the audience late this year.

Produced by Vietnam Television Film Center (VFC) and directed by Meritorious Artists Tran Quoc Trong and Vu Truong Khoa, the drama is entitled Hai phia chan troi (Horizon Sides).

It is based on the novel Mau va tuyet (Blood and Snow) by Tran Hoai Van, who also wrote the script for the drama, according to the local newspaper Nhan Dan (People Daily).

With the main settings shot in Germany, France, Poland and the Czech Republic, the film depicts endeavours Vietnamese people living abroad have made to make their ends meet as well as to preserve Vietnamese tradition and identity.

Apart from Vietnamese actors, the participation of foreign casts will also help the audience understand how Vietnamese expats overcome differences in language, culture, customs and tradition in their host countries.

Amateur singer wins television singing contest

Amateur singer Nguyen Dinh Thanh Tam won the highest prize at a singing contest on Saturday. Tam, an architect, performed the songs Het Duyen (No More Alluring) and Phat Ba Nghin Mat Nghin Tay (One-Thousand-Hand & Eye Buddha). Le Viet Anh received the audience prize while Dong Hung took the talent prize. The contest has been held biennially by Viet Nam Television since 2004.

Silk paintings on display at Furama Resort

An exhibition of silk paintings by artist Bui Tien Tuan has opened at the five-star Furama Resort Da Nang. The 20 silk paintings by the Hoi An-born painter depict the beauty of women and landscapes in the central region. The show will run through August 30.

Documentary DVDs donated to Ho Chi Minh Museum

A hundred DVDs of a documentary about President Ho Chi Minh in the Central Highlands were presented to Ho Chi Minh Museum yesterday, Aug 13, by the Ministry of Information and Communications as part of an effort to establish a documentary film library.

The documentary will be screened at the museum to help visitors learn more about the president's relationship with the people of the Highlands.

Photo exhibition on HCMC marks National Day

A photo exhibition titled ‘Be Proud of Ho Chi Minh City-Heroic City’ opened at the City Youth Cultural House to mark August Revolution and National Day on September 2.

The display featuring 150 pictures aims to educate young people about the heroic events and encourage youth to participate in building and defending the country.

The exhibition is part of the Cultural Week celebrating the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.

The Cultural Week is expected to attract young people with various activities like ‘Join Hands to Follow Path of Uncle Ho’ and ‘Study and Follow Ho Chi Minh's Moral Example’, to take place on August 26.
