Miss Vietnam not selected to Beach Beauty event 

Kieu Khanh, Vietnamese contestant at the Miss World Pageant 2010, was not selected to compete for this year’s Beach Beauty title, which will be held at Mandarin Oriental. 

Forty out of 115 contestants have been selected. The winner of this competition will automatically advance to the Top 16 Semi Finals.

Last year, Huong Giang is the first Miss Vietnam to ever place among the top 12 finalists of Miss World Beach Beauty competition, which took place at Zimbali Resort Kwazulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa.

The Beach Beauty event first started in 2003, where the Miss World Organization wanted to have preliminary or "fast track events" to allow delegates to get into the Top 20 (2003), Top 15 (2004, 2005, 2008), Top 17 (2006) or Top 16 (2007).
 
Vietnam film week opens in Germany

A Vietnamese film week opened in Magdeburg city of the Sachsen-Anhalt state on Oct. 14 as part of the Vietnam Year in Germany in 2010.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese charge d’affaires Bui Ngoc Toan stressed the importance of the film week which takes place in the year Vietnam and Germany celebrate their 35 th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

The event, which features 10 Vietnamese well-known films, including Doi Cat (Life of Sand), Dung Dot (Don’t Burn), Song trong so hai (Living in Fear) and Chuyen cua Pao (Pao’s Storty), will tell Germany’s audience about Vietnam’s culture as well as the Vietnamese people’s normal life.

Burkhart Fieber, who is in charge of international cooperation, European issues and communications of the Sachsen-Anhalt state spoke highly of the sound cooperation between Vietnam and the state, especially in economy and education.

He also highly appreciated the integration by Vietnamese community living in Sachsen-Anhalt.

Visitors to the opening ceremony had chance to learn about Vietnamese landscape, people and culture through short films and documents introduced by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism as well as enjoyed Vietnamese dishes and traditional music.

Vietnam joins ASEAN Family Day in Japan

Vietnamese diplomats joined their counterparts from nine other ASEAN member countries at the ASEAN Family Day 2010 held in the Kasai Rinkai Park on the outskirts of Tokyo on Oct. 16.

The ASEAN Family Day is an annual event to boost the friendship and cooperation among ASEAN diplomatic missions in Japan .

The participants took part in various sports and entertainment activities, including golf, sepak takraw and tug of war, and enjoyed traditional dishes of ASEAN countries and folk dances performed by the staff of the Philippine embassy which hosted this year’s event.

Ho Chi Minh City Days festival begins in Pusan

The “Ho Chi Minh City Days in Pusan ” festival opened at the Pusan Cultural Centre in the Republic of Korea , on October 14, with a special show to mark the 15 th anniversary of both municipalities becoming sister cities.

Vietnam ’s Ambassador to the RoK Tran Trong Toan underlined the growing relationship the two sister cities have had over the past few years.

He highlighted the efforts made by the authorities and people of both cities to develop their friendship and cooperation, including the important role played by Vietnam ’s consul general in Pusan and Kyeongnam, the RoK’s consul general in HCM City as well as friendship organisations, businesses and individuals from both cities.

Leaders from both cities spoke highly of the fruitful results of bilateral relations and discussed plans for cooperating further in the future during the talks, within the framework of the festival.

A series of cooperative agreements signed by both municipal authorities has helped to promote political, economic, and cultural activities between both cities.

They have also exchanged delegations to share their experiences in developing and managing the real estate market, transportation, post and telecoms. They also debated how districts from both cities could cooperate more effectively.

First established in November 1995, the relationship between HCM City and Pusan is considered the most dynamic twinning between Vietnam and the RoK.

The festival is a regular and rotated activity between both countries to promote bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation.

Hanoi hosts first international film festival

The 3D animated film, “Arthur and the Two Worlds War” by French director Luc Bensson will open Vietnam ’s first international film festival in Hanoi on October 17.

The festival will screen 67 films from 23 countries and territories.

Host Vietnam will enter Trung Uy (Lieutenant), by director Ha Son and Long Thanh Cam Gia Ca (A Song about a Musician in Thang Long Citadel) by director Dao Ba Son, along with films from Japan , China , Singapore , the Philippines , Indonesia , Malaysia and Hong Kong to compete for the prize of best feature film.

Vietnam sees the festival as an excellent opportunity to develop cultural exchanges and boost cooperation between regional and international film makers.

Palestinian folk dance troupe perform in Hanoi
 
Palestinian folk dance troupe Asayel has performed at the Hanoi Opera House on October 14, with a display of traditional Palestinian arts and new creative trends.

The troupe performed a number of folk dances and songs reflecting the hardships of farmers and a young couple’s love story as well as songs on the tradition and customs of Palestinians.

The Asayel have toured many countries around the world introducing Palestine’s culture and helping to preserve their traditional arts in a modern society.
