Visitors will see scenes of bullfighting, the Real Madrid football club, and the wine cellars and farmers of Lazarote Island, as well as some images of Vietnam taken by Spanish embassy staff in Hanoi.
There are also pictures of Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia attending the opening ceremony of the Office for International Development Co-operation during their visit to Vietnam in February 2006 and the then Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet delivering speech at the Congress of Deputies during his visit to Spain in December 2009.
The event is co-organised by the Vietnam-Spain Friendship Association (VSFA) and the Spanish embassy in Vietnam.
VSFA Chairman Nguyen Hoai Duong said that the exhibition will help Vietnamese people understand more about Spain and its people and promote activities to mark 35 years of Vietnam-Spain diplomatic relations.
Documentary fest debuts in Dong Nai
Two seminars focusing on making documentaries for television will open the first Southern Region TV Documentary Film Festival in Dong Nai Province today.
The festival is being held in Bien Hoa City's Buu Long Tourist Park.
The event has attracted filmmakers and producers from 41 TV and radio stations as well as film companies in the region.
The three-day festival is organised by the Dong Nai Radio and Television and its partners. It is themed: "Viet Nam and its people in the process of renewal and integration to the world."
Filmmakers have sent their latest works in the hope that the festival will garner publicity for them.
Entries from Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV), including the 61-episode Me Kong Ky Su (Chronicle of Mekong) filmed by a staff of skilled directors and cameramen, are a highlight of the festival.
The series focuses on the history, culture and daily life of people living along the Mekong River.
Our staff often spends months to capture the challenges faced by people in their daily life, said Nguyen Quy Hoa, general director of HTV.
Because of such efforts, audiences have the opportunity to discover different places and connect with different people, he added.
The documentaries produced by HTV often focus on education, health and road traffic, issues that are important in the lives of residents everywhere.
"Making a quality TV documentary is very difficult," said Nguyen Thi Thanh Tieng of the Can Tho Radio and Television.
She said her station had only one production per month because "most provincial TV stations face a shortage of skilled directors, cameramen and film editors."
In recent years, provincial stations have worked with bigger counterparts like Viet Nam Television and HTV to improve their business, she said.
Concert spotlights German, Vietnamese artists
German pianist Andreas Boyde and conductor Khac Uyen, a Norwegian of Vietnamese origin, will appear at a concert themed “From the new world” at the Hanoi Opera House on May 28 and 29.
The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) said on May 21 that both will join the VNSO to play the overture “Coriolan”, by Beethoven and Concerto 21 by Mozart.
The German pianist will play ‘From the new world’, a symphony by the renowned Czech composer Antonin Dvorak.
Boyde was nicknamed ‘Monsieur 100,000 volts’ by critics. His performances have electrified audiences worldwide.
Khac Uyen studied the violin at the Guildhall in London and conducting at the Royal College . He is a widely travelled musician and founded El Cimarron, a Salzburg based group that specialises in contemporary music, as well as making frequent appearances as a guest and associate conductor for several UK orchestras.
Stone Age axes found in central province
Ancient stone axes have been found in the mountainous commune of Truong Xuan in Quang Ninh District in the central province of Quang Binh, according to the provincial museum. Most of the objects were found by members of the Bru Van Kieu ethnic group while hunting in the jungle. The V-shaped axes, which have a polished surface, were whittled from yellow silica stone and, as the blades became blunt, were used for digging and cutting plants. Researchers at the museum believe that the objects date to the late Stone Age, about 4,500-5,000 years ago.

An exhibition of 120 photos mounted in Ha Noi by the Viet Nam-Spain Friendship Association and the Spanish Embassy in Viet Nam offers viewers a glimpse of the Spanish people and countryside. The photos, taken by Spanish photographers and a Vietnam News Agency photojournalist, capture the beautiful Spanish landscape, including the medieval walls of Avila and the windmills of Consuegra, as well as other images representative of Spanish culture, including bullfighting and the Real Madrid football team. The exhibition runs until May 29 at 45 Trang Tien Street.
