Classical music performance for charity
Violinist Anh Tu and his wife Viet Dung will give a classical music performance for charity at the French Cultural Centre in Hanoi, L’Espace, on August 30.

All money raised from their performance together with pianist Ngoc Linh and six other rockers including Duc Long, Quang Minh, Truong Chinh, Hai Nam, Hai Bang and Manh Linh, will be donated to poor children in Dong Hy District, Thai Nguyen Province.
Danang’s National Day surfing, street shows
Local authorities in Danang City have approved a street music show and surfing programs on Han River on the occasion of National Day on Sunday.
The music show will be hosted by Danang Events and Festivals Organizing Center on the familiar venue of Bach Dang Street on the west bank of Han River, facing off Han Market from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Surfing events will be held by Huy Khanh Company on Han River from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The show will see four canoes, seven jet-skis, two paramotors and five surf boards, with 25 competitors taking part.
Moreover, this year’s Danang Triathlon will take place on Pham Van Dong Beach-Son Tra Peninsula at the end of next month with 200 athletes involved.
The program will be accompanied with music shows and booths to bolster tourism of the peninsula.
Art Photograph Festival marks National Day in HCM City
Photographer Do Huu Luan won the gold medal for his picture titled Cong Trinh Moi (New Work) at the 37th Ho Chi Minh City Art Photograph Festival 2012.
Two silver medals went to Ha Huu Thai from the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang for his work Ngam Muc Tieu (Looking at the Target), and to Vo Trung Kien of Kien Giang Province for his photo titled Suc Song Moi (New Lease of Life).
Le Thanh Ngon from Bac Lieu Province, Nguyen Tan Nghi and Nguyen Chinh Tan from Ho Chi Minh City got bronze medals for their works Thep Do (Red Steel), Dan Luoi (Knitting Fishing Net) and Nhan (Patience).
The organizers also awarded five encouragement prizes and three special prizes.
The photo contest themed ‘Freedom’ and ‘New Rural Area’ received more than 1,400 submissions from 262 photographers in 32 cities and provinces across the country.
The organizers selected 117 pictures including winning works from an exhibition at the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association to be held on September 1 to mark National Day.
HCM City photo contest announces winners
The board of the 37th HCM City Artistic Photograph Competition has announced the contest winners.
A work called Cong Trinh Moi (New Construction) brought HCM City-based photographer Do Huu Luan the Golden Prize. Suc Song Moi (New Vitality) by Vo Trung Kien from An Giang Province and Ngam Muc Tieu (Target) by Ha Quoc Thai from Tien Giang Province were granted the Silver Prize.
Three Bronze Prizes were given to Dan Luoi (Fishnet Weaving) by Nguyen Tan Ghi, Thep Do (Hot Steel) by Le Thanh Ngon, and Nhan (Patience) by Nguyen Minh Tan.
Five Encouragement Prizes were also given to different photographers from HCM City, Long An and Ninh Thuan.
Awards will be distributed at the opening ceremony of an exhibition displaying 104 selected photos from the contest, which will take place at the HCM City Photographic Artists' Association on Saturday.
Duc Tuan to perform with Asia’s famous opera singer
Vietnam’s singer Duc Tuan and violinist Bui Cong Duy will join Asia’s famous opera singer Rachelle Gerodias at a concert held in Manila, the Philippines on August 28.
The event will also involve Joanna Ampil, a star of the UK’s West End opera stage.
In early March, Duc Tuan, Joanna Ampil and Rachelle Gerodias performed together at the Vietnam-Philippines friendship concert in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Nguyen Vu Tu said the concert in celebration of Vietnam’s 67th National Day (September 2) will help foreigners learn more about Vietnam’s music and artists.
Antiques, historical photos go on display in southern city
An exhibition featuring more than 300 objects from different periods in Viet Nam's history will open to the public at the Can Tho Museum today.
Selected from thousands of collections kept at the museum, the objects on display include ancient clay items from the Oc Eo Civilisation (1st-7th century AD), Vietnamese currency from different time periods, and jewellery of ethnic groups living in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta.
Besides the ancient objects, the exhibition will also display 100 photos of the remarkable political events that took place in Ha Noi after the August Revolution in 1945.
The exhibition runs until December 12.
