There is much worry in the public about the quality of TV serials that have recently been declining in quality and content and not reflecting the realities of life.
Some films show frequent advertising clippings that upset the audience who are subjected to commercial rather than content viewing.
Experts say that film scripts and the relationship between scriptwriter-director-producer is an important role in filmmaking.
Actresses Kim Xuan, Kim Phuong and Hanh Thuy focused on the work pressure and unprofessionalism of actors that has affected the film crew.
Participants said that the Board of Review of Motion Pictures has not promoted their talents in film previews.

Siemens launches video clip contest on sustainability
Siemens, the world’s leading green infrastructure company, launched a video clip contest on sustainable development in Hanoi on June 6.
The contest, titled “Sustainability – All we need is U”, aims to increase awareness of sustainability and to appeal the sense of responsibility and responsive actions of youths right from today.
“ Vietnam is a developing country where urbanisation is taking place at a very fast speed but it is also one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change,” said President and CEO of Siemens Vietnam Erdal Elver.
And yet not all Vietnamese people, especially the young, are fully aware of the consequences of these two trends and the necessity to act sustainably – with respect to the economy, the environment and society, he said.
“Sustainability is Siemens’ guiding principle, and we wish to promote it in Vietnam as a part of our corporate social commitment to this fast growing country”, emphasised Elver.
This contest is open to students aged 18 to 25 years old of all universities and colleges across Vietnam who are creative and dynamic as well as fans of the Seventh Art.
The jury will select five best entries for the final round where short-listed film-makers are required to make a presentation about his/her video clip. Winners will be awarded with very attractive and valuable prizes.
There are also many prizes for participants throughout the contest such as “The best video clip of the month” selected by the jury and “The video clip of choice” voted by the website’s members together with prizes for winners of the online games.
This is the second time Siemens Vietnam undertakes to organise a contest for Vietnamese students. The 2010 photo contest “Ho Chi Minh City 21 – A Green and Sustainable City” drew much attention and was well responded by students from more than 20 universities in Ho Chi Minh City
Present in Vietnam in 1993, Siemens has participated in numerous infrastructure projects in all key areas of the Vietnamese economy, including energy, industry, healthcare and transportation

Floating school emphasises heritage preservation
The EcoBoat, an environmental education programme on Ha Long Bay, was the focal point of an exhibition on June 5 to showcase its outstanding performance over the past six years.
The exhibition introduced poems and paintings featuring a wide range of activities launched by the EcoBoat programme to send wishes for a forever green, clean and beautiful bay.
Established in 2005 by the Ha Long Bay’s Management Department and the Fauna and Flora International (FFI), the EcoBoat serves as a floating school that educates children about values of Ha Long Bay as well as the need to preserve the world heritage site.
Students at the school have chance to explore the spectacular natural landscapes of the bay and engage in an array of exciting games, where they learn about the biological significance of the marine reserve.
The programme, funded by the UK ’s Darwin Initiative, has carried out a total of 136 trips with the participation of over 4,000 members since the first one made in April, 2006.
The exhibition contributes to the campaign to garner votes for Ha Long Bay as one of the new seven wonders of the world.
Exhibition of sculptures, worship paintings opens
An exhibition of paintings and statues by painter, sculptor, and art critic Nguyen Quan has opened at Art Talk Café in Hanoi.
“3D White” has on display three white sculptures and 26 black and white oil paintings Quan, 63, created 30 years ago.
Some of the paintings are inlaid with Sinh village paintings from the central province of Thua Thien-Hue – the famous folk style used to express people’s wishes on votive offerings that are burnt during prayers.
The painter said he wanted to offer people a chance to see the painting style since it was a “waste” to use it just for worshiping.
The exhibition at 12 Quan Su will run until June 20.
VTV cancels popular historical drama
Huyen Su Thien Do (Legend of the 1,000-Year-Old Capital), the first Vietnamese historical drama TV series, which has been shown on national television channel VTV since April, will be cancelled on June 29.
According to VTV last week only the first 20 episodes will be shown, but the show’s producers had already planned to shoot 70 episodes.
Huyen Su Thien Do, one of a few shows that were made to celebrate Hanoi’s 1,000-year anniversary last year, has received good ratings so far by viewers who rarely have the chance to watch a pure made-in-Vietnam historical program.
As much of the viewership has a favorable opinion of the show, many have expressed concern over the abrupt cancellation.
Sao The Gioi, the producing company, said although it had finished filming 42 episodes up to now, its contract with VTV only allowed half of them to be aired.
“We sent our script to them [VTV] two years ago, when both of the parties were still unsure of its screening schedule,” Sao The Gioi’s representative said.
At the time, as Huyen Su Thien Do was one of the first Vietnamese historical drama projects in the industry, VTV feared it may not reach the station’s standards.
The producing cost was another problem, because the genre usually needs more financing for things like costumes, props, studios and cinematic techniques.
So VTV decided to test how the show would be received first, because it feared Vietnamese audiences, whose tend to favor more developed Korean and Chinese historical dramas, may turn their backs on the program.
However, after spending a lot on a massive PR campaign the limited testing contract is not enough time to make any profit.
Nguyen Huu Trong, a producer at Sao The Gioi said it would suffer a loss because the production costs are much higher than a usual TV series.
“Each episode fetches more than VND 1 billion (US$ 49,000), and the TV ads can’t cover it,” he said. “The film needs much more air time to recover its capital. Twenty episodes are not enough at all.”
Nguyen Thanh Luu, deputy head of Editorial Secretariat at VTV said when signing the contract, they had to balance audience needs and financial profit, especially with a big budget project like this.
“The contract was signed by both parties unanimously then,” he added.
Although June 29 will be the last day Huyen Su Thien Do airs, VTV has not decided what will replace it.
There have been rumors that Duong Toi Thanh Thang Long (The Road to Thanh Long Citadel), another series made to celebrate Hanoi’s1000-year anniversary would fill the time slot.
Hue to turn Nguyen Dynasty palace into resort
The central city of Hue is looking for investors to restore Phu Noi Vu (Inner Court Palace) in the Imperial City and turn it into a high-class resort.
The two-hectare palace was built in 1937 by the Nguyen Dynasty to store royal treasures.
The plan envisages retaining its architecture, displaying palace utensils, and selling replicas along with royal cuisine.
The restoration work is expected to cost around VND65.4 billion (US$3 million).
Phu Noi Vu housed the Hue College of Arts from 1957 to 2008.
