Concert promotes experimental music

A contemporary music concert will be organised by Parallel Asteroid and young musicians of the Dom Dom Experimental Music Centre at the French Cultural Centre L'Espace tomorrow.

The concert is the result of a project jointly organised by Parallel Asteroid and the Dom Dom Experimental Music Centre.

Under the project, Parallel Asteroid musicians — Vietnamese Cao Thanh Lan and Austrian Gregor Siedl – visited Viet Nam to hold an intensive workshop and practice sessions with young musicians of the advanced improvisation class of Dom Dom.

Lan has a strong classical and contemporary music background, while Siedl is a jazz musician with roots in improvised and experimental music.

Their common ground is free improvisation with vigorous use of extended techniques and new forms of expression. The duo is actively connected to the thriving music scenes of Vienna, Berlin, Cologne and Brussels.

Danang Int’l Fireworks Competition to blast off

The countdown is on until five prestigious pyrotechnic companies light up the Danang skies as part of the annual International Fireworks Competition.

Some of the world’s top pyrotechnic teams will compete for the much sought after competition title during five days of explosive action on April 29 to May 3.

Set for Danang City at the Han River Port, the stunning firework displays will be synchronised to music against the backdrop of the infamous Han River.

This year’s pyrotechnic companies firing at the event are Howard & Son Fireworks from Australia, Fireworks for Africa from South Africa, Pyrotecnico from the US, Surex Firma Rodzinna from Poland and the Danang City Team.

“The Fireworks Championships is an event which literally lights up the whole of Danang, an organizer of the event said.

To serve the event, Dong Duong JSC has constructed a stand with seating capacity for 32,000 on the eastern bank of Han River.

Danang has also planned a wide range of activities to coincide with the event such as bike races, concerts, art performances and is opening a large number of souvenir and food shops to cater to the event.

Cultural events lead to fireworks competition

An International cuisine event will be held in the central city as a lead up to this weekend's scheduled seventh Da Nang International Fireworks Competition, a contest between teams representing five countries.

Vice director of the city's Culture, Sports and Tourism department, Tran Chi Cuong, said the programme of events will explore the cuisine, lifestyle, culture and fashion of the competing teams from South Africa, Australia, Poland, the US and Viet Nam.

Cuong said the schedule of events will take place at the Novotel Hotel Square on Tran Phu Street starting this coming Saturday and lasting through Tuesday.

Then, on April 28 and 29, the teams' fireworks will compete to embody the theme of – A Symphony of Colours – and win over the expected 500,000-strong crowd.

Da Nang has been the only city in Viet Nam hosting an annual international fireworks festival since 2008. It became the biennial event from 2013.

Month of Vietnamese films celebrates South's Liberation Day

A month of Vietnamese films will be held across the country, marking national holidays from April 20 to May 20.

The event aims to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the South's Liberation Day (April 30), Labor Day (May 1), and Uncle Ho's 125th birth anniversary (May 19, 1890).

Movies include Nhung Dua Con Cua Lang (Children of the Village), Nhin Ra Bien Ca (Looking towards Sea), Duong xuyen rung (Journey across the forest), Tieng khen (The sound of Khen- a musical instrument used by the Mong ethnic minority), Dinh cao chien thang (The peak of victory).

They will be screened at National Cinema Center in Hanoi, Hung Dao Theater in Buon Ma Thuot City in the central highland province of Dak Lak, multi-function Film Center in the  northern province of Nghe An and CineBox in Ho Chi Minh City.

The film week aims to honor glorious history and combats, promote patriotism and national pride in building and protecting the country.

The event is organized by the National Cinema Department in cooperation with local film studios.

HCM City to display fireworks on Liberation Day

HCMC will organize a host of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Liberation Day on April 30 including fireworks displays from 10 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. at eight places in the downtown and outskirt areas.

Fireworks will glitter at the Bitexco Financial Tower in District 1, Ben Duoc Martyrs Monument in Cu Chi District, Nga Ba Giong Martyrs Monument in Hoc Mon District, Lang Le – Bau Co historic relic in Binh Chanh District, football stadium in Can Gio District, National Cultural and Historical Park in District 9, Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11 and Lang Hoa Cultural Park in Go Vap District.

The Liberation Day celebration will also feature a parade on Le Duan Boulevard in District 1 in the morning with the participation of 6,000 people from army and police forces, State agencies and students.
