Some 300 photos and documents on the construction and design of French-style buildings in Ho Chi Minh City are being exhibited in the city until November 24 along the Nguyen Hue pedestrian mall in District 1, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City.
 
The exhibition marks the 320th anniversary of Saigon-Cho Lon-Gia Dinh-Ho Chi Minh City (1698-2018) and the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and France. It is also to welcome French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on his three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen emphasized that the aim of the exhibition is to introduce to the public precious documents, maps and images preserved in Vietnam and France on the construction of old Saigon from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

It is a highlight in cultural and historical activities for local people as well as international tourists and contributes to expanding the relationship between Vietnam and the France.

Mr. Vincent Floreani, French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said he appreciated the cultural and historical value of the exhibition, which introduces the cultural diversity of Saigon - a valuable asset that needs to be preserved and promoted for following generations.

Some 300 photos, documents and maps on the history of the establishment and development of Saigon in the late 19th and early 20th century and the French-style architecture in construction and buildings are on display. The material was provided by the Vietnam National Archives Center and the French Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival will feature many famous Belgian Beer brands. Belgium has the greatest diversity of original beer styles in the world, with over 1,000 types of beers, including pale lager to amber ales, lambic beers, Flemish red ales, sour brown ales, strong ales and stouts.

In 2016, UNESCO included Belgian beer culture on their list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Tickets are VNĐ50,000 per person. 

Pagoda photos on display

An exhibition displaying photos from the latest photo book by French photographer, journalist and publisher Nicolas Cornet will open from 6pm tomorrow, November 9, at L’Espace.

Entitled Pagodas in Vietnam, the book features photos of temples and worshipping places revered by local inhabitants throughout the country, from north to south.

While the two first chapters are about the history of Buddhism in Việt Nam and its old pagodas and temples in the North, the third one focuses on Huế and the central region.

The fourth chapter introduces pagodas and Chinese temples in HCM City, and the last chapter highlights Khmer pagodas in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta.

Through the 250-page book, reader can see a wide view on the traditional architecture of the pagodas as well as the artistic details of the structures.

Images about daily life also presented in the book to complete the photographic narrative and show the photographer’s strong attachment to Việt Nam for more than 30 years.

The free exhibition will run until December 31. L’Espace is at 24 Tràng Tiền Street.

A Landmark fundraiser for children

The Intercontinental Hanoi Landmark72 Hotel will celebrate its 1st anniversary with a fundraising event on November 10.

The hotel is partnering with Operation Smile Vietnam to raise money for children with facial deformities.

A series of events will be held on the day from 5pm at the hotel’s Hive Lounge at 62nd floor.

Joining the event, guests will have chance to taste the hotel’s signature Flying Dinner Buffet prepared by top chefs from InterContinental Hanoi Landmark72. Alongside, they can also enjoy an art exhibition by artists of the Vietnam Art Space (VAS), or live performances by famous Vietnamese singers Đức Tuấn and Bảo Trâm.
