Held every two years, the event aims to honour the original artistic values of Bắc Ninh's quan họ folk songs. They were recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2009.

Quan họ (a love duet) singing is highly valued for its special cultural significance, performance art and singing skills, along with its unique customs, language and costumes.

The event, which will be based on the theme "Bên Ding Tiêu Tương" (by the Tiêu Tương river), will feature sweet quan họ melodies that epitomize the beauty of Bắc Ninh city.

At the event, a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will award the city authorities, certificates recognizing two local sites as special national relics. They are the tombs and temples of the kings of the Ly Dynasty, and the Phat Tich Pagoda historical-architectural relic site in the Tiên Du district.
