Artists Van Dieu Lien and To Bao An have recently launched an exhibition titled “Thú tiêu dao” (The pleasure of leisure) at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association.
At the opening ceremony, the two artists introduced "The pleasure of leisure" as a space to showcase their passionate works, symbolizing a crossroads on each person's artistic journey.
The exhibition, running from June 22-28, features 68 pieces in various mediums including oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, and ceramics, employing a diverse range of styles and techniques.
The works, themed around still life, animals, landscapes, space, and the environment, reflect the artists' experiences and perspectives on love, family, life, and society, guiding viewers towards positive values and truths.

Van Dieu Lien, also known as Lien Van, uses her paintings as a vast sky to explore moods with contrasting colors. Her art often presents a quiet elegance through somber hues, sometimes offering a deep, distant gaze that exudes a sense of freedom. Lien Van's technique involves blurring details and highlighting key elements, creating a three-dimensional space with dancing color blocks that evoke a magical, ghostly atmosphere.
To Bao An, on the other hand, conveys messages from the environment and the natural world through symbolic animal imagery. His paintings serve as a medium to express inner depth and thoughts on contemporary issues.
Despite the lack of words, the animals' eyes, gestures, and behaviors create a metaphorical dialogue between humans and nature, illustrating Bao An's effort to communicate with the world around him and his inner self.

Prof. Dr. Sculptor Nguyen Xuan Tien, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association, praised the exhibition as an unexpected yet harmonious combination of two distinct creative styles.
He noted that Van Dieu Lien's works often feature still lifes, animals, and landscapes painted with a romantic, abstract quality that connects the viewer with the artist's emotions through vibrant colors and dynamic brush strokes.
"Van Dieu Lien paints with thoughts, emotions, and feelings, linking the artist and viewer through brilliant colors," he said.
Regarding To Bao An's works, Mr. Tien highlighted the artist's use of animal imagery to metaphorically describe life. He remarked that the survival of animals in natural conditions prompts viewers to reflect on society and the natural environment, with Bao An using art as a powerful language to convey his deep thoughts and feelings.
