‘Memories of Hue’ painting exhibition by artists Ton Nu Tuong Hoa and Nguyen Khoa Nhy will open at Tu Do Gallery, featuring 33 pieces made of silk and oil on canvas.

Visitors will have a chance to admire the beauty of Hue’s ladies, nostalgic charm of old citadels and temples, romantic memories of Hue in the rain and typical flowers of the central city.

As a royal descendent, artist Tuong Hoa always keeps images of royal citadels in her heart and in paintings such as Ferry-Boats in Hue, Creeper Flower, Asoka Flowers, King Tu Duc’s Mausoleum and Thuong Tu Gate.

She also honors graceful Hue’s ladies in ao dai (long dress), in flower gardens or even during the rain in Young Girl and Lotus, Young Girl with Violet Scarf, Young Girl with Royal Yellow Dress and Rain In Hue.

“It is a rare chance to admire silk paintings made in traditional Vietnamese methods with elegance in lines, meticulousness in patterns, harmony in colors and brightness of water color as well as softness of silk. It is difficult to find a young artist to make this kind of painting as they often follow oil with abstract or expressionism styles,” said Dang Hai Son, owner of the gallery.

Also, Nhy also presents his memories of Hue with profound thoughts and sentiments via Slop to Communal House, Storm is coming to Hue, Return to Origin, Humanity, Aspiration, Huong River, Mother’s Arms, A Hue Young Girl and Serepok River.

Born in 1946 in Hue, Hoa graduated from Fine Arts College of Hue in 1971 and has had numerous solo exhibitions nationwide and in Paris. Her husband, Nhy, born in 1945, graduated in the same course and is also successful.

The show runs till July 27 at the gallery, 53 Ho Tung Mau Street in District 1.
