Hosted by VCCA’s artistic director Mizuki Endo, the event is part of the “Foliage 3” exhibition and will start at 10 a.m.

It is not uncommon in the history of art for artists to take inspiration from their travels, such as the influence of Japanese print on Vincent van Gogh or primitive aesthetics on Fauvist artists of the previous century. In contemporary art, travelling is not only a source of inspiration but often develops into artistic research.

This process also helps artists learn and understand the historical context, culture and custom of the community where they travel to.

The three artists, who participate in the “Foliage 3” exhibition, will share how their interest and perspective were formed and the issues that might have come up during their artistic research process.

Andrea Orejarena, born in Colombia in 1994 and Caleb Stein, born in the UK in 1994, are multimedia artist duo currently based in Hanoi. Their art projects in Vietnam explore the memories of the Vietnam War through a collective creative process in collaboration with Vietnamese veterans and younger generations affected by chemical weapons used by the U.S. during the war.

Tristan Jalleh, born in 1979, is a video artist from Australia. He is famous for works that are not only visually compelling but also convey profound insights. His works have been on display in many prestigious exhibitions and museums such as Experimenta International Biennial of Media Art and Sydney Contemporary 2015, RMIT Gallery, and Powerhouse Museum.SGT
