VietNamNet Bridge – Various activities have taken place to celebrate the 17th ASEAN Summit in Hanoi.

Russian and US Foreign Ministers to return to Hanoi


From October 28-30, the following meetings will take place in Hanoi: the ASEAN+1 Summit with Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, and India; the 13th ASEAn+3 Summit; the third ASEAN-UN Summit; the fifth East Asia Summit; the second ASEAN-Russia Summit; the ASEAN-Australia Summit; and the ASEAN-New Zealand Summit.

The summits will be presided over by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and will be attended by leaders of ASEAN countries and their seven partner countries of ASEAN plus the UN Secretary-General. The Russian Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State will attend the fifth East Asia Summit as guests of the Summit President. This is the second Summit hosted by Vietnam as Chair of ASEAN 2010.

There will be some other additional meetings including the Mekong-Japan forum.

Ministers and senior ASEAN officials will meet to prepare for the 17th ASEAN Summit.

This year’s Summit will focus on reviewing ASEAN’s operations over the past year and charting the course of building the ASEAN community, implementing the ASEAN Charter and coping with global challenges.
