Asian charity golf tournament to help needy children
More than 100 golfers are participating in the first Asian Charity and Investment Connection Golf Tournament in Hanoi on July 16-17.
The golf competition, jointly organised by the Hanoi Cultural Fund, Him Lam Corporation and the Wonder World Group, aims to raise funds for disadvantaged children in Vietnam, the organising board said in a recent press conference.
Additionally, the event is expected to provide an opportunity for Asian businessmen to explore investment opportunities in the fields of construction, real estate, energy, advanced technology and education.
As part of the events, a seminar on clean energy, waste water treatment and Nano technology will take place, with the participation of leading businesses and specialists from Vietnam and the Republic of Korea.
Vietnam’s U16s to compete at regional championships
The national U16 football team will compete at the Southeast Asian Championship in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, later this month.
Coach Dinh The Nam has brought together 31 players, who are now in intensive training in Hanoi.
"In the next three weeks they will exercise to improve their physique and skills before we name a final list of 25 players," said Nam.
In Cambodia, Vietnam will play Malaysia, Laos, Timor Leste, Brunei and Thailand in Group A.
Group B will include Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar and Cambodia.
The teams will compete in a round robin format in the group stage, with the two best ones advancing to the semi-finals.
The tournament will begin on July 25, with the final scheduled on August 8.
National winners to represent Vietnam at Toyota Mekong Cup
V.League 1 2015 champions will participate in the Toyota Mekong Club Championship.
The second tournament marks a new step, with the presentation of this year's Thai-League Cup winner, which differ from the four familiar teams from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, with matches being held in all countries.
Representatives of Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar will compete against each other in the first stage, to be held from November 1-29. The best team will play the Vietnamese team at the Hanoi's Hang Day Stadium in the second stage on December 6.
The winner will then advance to the final against Thai-League Cup champions on December 20.
The tournament's winner will receive US$75,000.
Last year, Vietnam's Becamex Binh Duong beat Myanmar's Ayeyawadi 4-1 in the final.
Friendly matches between MoPS and diplomatic missions launchedFriendly football matches took place among teams from the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security (MoPS) and diplomatic missions in the country on July 11.
Australian and Mozambican ambassadors to Vietnam Hugh Borrowman and Gamilien Munguambe attended the event.
The matches and future cultural and sport exchanges will promote mutual trust and understanding, said Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Dang Van Hieu.
Borrowman lauded the bilateral engagement between Vietnamese and Australian law enforcement and hoped the ties would grow.
National youth swimming championships to kick off
The National Youth Swimming and Fin-swimming Championship are ongoing in HCM City, the Viet Nam Aquatic Sports Association.
Some 140 athletes from 19 teams nationwide will compete in the fin-swimming event, while the swimming championship will attract 215 athletes from 29 teams.
Athletes will fight for 72 sets of medals in two events.
The championship will closes on July 20.
Handball tournament gets started in Ha Noi
The National Youth Handball Championships began yesterday at the Ha Noi's Quan Ngua Sports Palace.
Eight men's and eight women's teams are participating in the championships and are divided into under-18 and under-20 age groups.
All teams will compete in a round-robin format in the first stage. The two best teams will then advance to the semi-finals.
The finals are scheduled on July 18.
Cuiests test out their skills at national event
The National Billiards and Snooker Championship's final kicked off yesterday in Binh Thuan Province with 130 competitors participating.
Players will compete in seven events of carom, including English billiards, pool and snookers for both men and women.
The tournament will close on July 19.
Binh Duong win junior tennis championships
Binh Duong, winning six gold medals, topped the National Junior Tennis Championships which closed in Soc Trang Province on Saturday.
HCM City came in second, followed by Ha Noi.
The annual tournament was held from July 4-11 and attracted nearly 250 athletes from 27 cities and provinces.
