The Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC) wants to cooperate with Vietnam to ensure peace in the region, said APRC President Surakiart Sathirathai.
Meeting with Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Assembly (NA) Uong Chu Luu in Hanoi on August 13, Surakiart said the APRC operates as non-governmental organisation aiming to help Asian governments reconcile and deal with disputes by peaceful solutions.
Twenty-five APRC members are senior leaders and famous scholars of some countries, Surakiart added.
For his part, Luu said Vietnam highly appreciates the APRC’s support for addressing issues related to race, religion, and territorial disputes by peaceful solutions.
The Vietnamese NA supports the APRC cooperating with the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs in handling regional and international disputes through peaceful and diplomatic solutions in accordance with international law.
Luu emphasised that the APRC is an official support channel for member countries in Southeast Asia to maintain peace and work for reconciliation with regional disputes towards successfully building a strong ASEAN political-security community in the near future.
He said he hopes professor Surakiart will act as a bridge to help the international community more deeply understand Vietnam’s land and people.
