Nghia ran 10.47sec, beating the old record made by Le Trong Hinh of Thanh Hoa in 2014 by just 0.1sec.

Later Ka Hoa of Ninh Thuan threw 14.48m to take a gold medal in the women’s shot put. Her result was better than the old record of 14.45m by Le Thi Lai of Soc Trang which has stood for five years.

Track-and-field athletes also set Games records in the women’s 100m by Le Tu Chinh of HCM City, women’s long jump by Hanoian Bui Thi Thu Thao,  men’s and women’s 4x400m and women’s 4x800m of Hanoi.

In cycling, Le Nguyet Minh and Nguyen Thi That won the first gold medals of the road race events yesterday.

Minh of HCM City finished 49km in the men’s point trial individual event winning 13 points. He was followed by Nguyen Thanh Tam of An Giang and Nguyen Minh Tri from Dong Thap.

The women’s title went to That of An Giang. The Asian champion pocketed 16 points for a 39km distance.

Bui Thi Quynh of Binh Duong was second and Nguyen Thi Thi, also from An Giang, came third.

Cycling will continue today with men’s and women’s time trial events.

Today, masters will begin their tournament in the standard chess event.

Nearly 180 contestants from 18 teams will take part in 12 categories for team and individual titles in rapid, blitz and standard chess.

Chess will conclude on December 8.

Hanoi are firmly on top of the ranking table with 40 golds. HCM City second with 24 and Binh Duong third with eight.
