VietNamNet Bridge – Music Together – a collaborative project between the Australian National University and the HCM City Conservatory of Music – will be performed at the HCM City Conservatory on Friday.

An Australian Consulate-General in HCM City press release said the concert will feature Le-Tuyen Nguyen of the Australian National University, founder of the GuiHANGtarDuo, and artists from the Department of Traditional Music from the HCM City Conservatory of Music.

The programme will have both traditional music from Viet Nam as well as Nguyen's latest contemporary compositions inspired by Vietnamese culture.

"We are delighted to work with the Australian National University and the HCM City Conservatory of Music to bring together this concert," said Australian Consul-General John McAnulty.

"Building on the already strong people-to-people links between Australia and Viet Nam, Music Together promotes a shared understanding of each other's culture, and is an opportunity for Australia to join with Viet Nam to celebrate the value of Vietnamese traditional music and its ability to inspire contemporary music around the world."

Le-Tuyen Nguyen is an Australian composer, guitarist and music educator. He has performed and lectured in Australia, Singapore, Viet Nam, South Korea, France and the United States.

He is the co-founder of GuiHANGtar together with Professor Salil Sachdev of Bridgewater State University.

Featuring Nguyen's compositions inspired by Vietnamese traditional music, the duo have performed in HCM City in 2011 and 2012.

Nguyen is the inventor of the new guitar technique called staccato-harmonic duotone. In 2007, he presented this innovation at the Darwin International Guitar Festival.

In 2010, in a collaborative research with Dr Tran Quang Hai of International Council for Traditional Music, Nguyen presented the world's first comparative study between the staccato-harmonic duotone and overtone singing techniques.
