In a message to President Luong Cuong on the occasion of Vietnam’s National Day, Governor-General Sam Mostyn called it a milestone marking eight decades of nation building and socio-economic development, underpinned by remarkable innovation and the resilience of the Vietnamese people.
Australia and Vietnam are enduring partners whose relationship is built on strategic trust. The two sides are continuing to realize their shared vision and commitments within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, in which people-to-people links are a particularly important foundation. The Governor-General expressed her wish to soon visit and witness Vietnam’s development first-hand.
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries is flourishing across most areas. Two-way trade has grown steadily, reaching more than USD 14 billion in 2024. Both sides have actively opened their markets to each other’s agricultural products, with Vietnam’s passion fruit exported to Australia for the first time and Australian plums now available in Vietnam.
Registered FDI from Australia has surpassed USD 3 billion. Australia has also increased its ODA for Vietnam to AUD 96.6 million.
Two weeks ago, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong visited Vietnam to co-chair the seventh Vietnam-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
