After a three-year wait, fans were finally treated to director James Cameron’s latest blockbuster. And it did not disappoint - delivering breathtaking visual effects, the franchise’s most epic battle scenes yet, and a deeply emotional storyline.

The film’s stunning visuals make it especially suited for IMAX screenings, which have been consistently sold out since opening weekend. Many moviegoers reported struggling to secure tickets and ended up settling for front-row seats during peak times.

Much like its predecessor Avatar 2 (2022), this third installment showcases the pinnacle of Hollywood visual technology, earning praise as a visual masterpiece.

With the enormous pull of the Avatar brand, the credibility of James Cameron, and sky-high fan anticipation, Avatar 3 is well on its way to setting new box office records in Vietnam.

The movie has created an unprecedented box office craze and is projected to dominate theaters throughout the 2025 holiday season. With even better quality than the previous film, Avatar 3 is expected to surpass Avatar 2’s Vietnam box office earnings of nearly 300 billion VND (12.4 million USD), potentially becoming the highest-grossing foreign film of all time in the country.

Meanwhile, Zootopia 2 secured second place over the weekend but earned just under 9 billion VND (370,000 USD). Nonetheless, it was enough to push the animated blockbuster past the 200 billion VND (8.3 million USD) milestone in Vietnam.

Animated film The King of Kings came in third with 1.5 billion VND (62,000 USD), while Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbor Totoro took fourth with 1.1 billion VND (46,000 USD). Vietnamese film The Hunt for Ambergris rounded out the top five, grossing just over 600 million VND (25,000 USD) in three days.

Looking ahead, the box office is expected to remain relatively unchanged in the coming week, with Avatar 3 likely to continue its monopoly on screen time due to the absence of worthy contenders.
