VietNamNet BridgeThe Hoa Trang Nguyen (Poinsettia Flower) award for outstanding academic achievement in 2010-11 was conferred on 800 high-school students from 33 central and southern cities and provinces yesterday, Sep 18.

Many awardees topped their university entrance exams and won national and international prizes.

Nearly 5,000 students nationwide have received the award since its inception in 2008. Each award is worth VND1 million (US$46).

The Hoa Trang Nguyen Award was established by the Tan Tao Group in co-ordination with the Ministry of Education and Training, the Party Central Committee's Commission for Popularisation and Education, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, and the Viet Nam Association of non-State universities and colleges.

The Hoa Trang Nguyen awards ceremony will move to the National University in Ha Noi on Saturday and Sunday to honour another 300 winners in the north.
