The Ba Be - Bac Kan Tourism Week 2017 will be held from October 18 to 23 at Po Lu hamlet, Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, in the northern province of Bac Kan.

It aims to introduce and promote the potential in eco-tourism and the special traditional cultural values of Ba Be district among domestic and foreign tourists.

Various cultural, sporting and tourism activities will be held, such as flower garlands and a colored lantern festival on October 20 at Ba Be Lake, a program of cultural and art exchanges and sporting activities, and folk games.

Cities, districts, and enterprises will display and sell specialty products over the course of the week.

Books, newspapers, paintings, and photos on Bac Kan’s tourism will also be displayed, with film screenings on tourism promotion held.

As a mountainous province, Bac Kan has untouched primitive forest with precious flora and fauna and thousands of types of minerals lying underground. 

It also has a host of interesting sights attracting tourists every year, such as Ba Be National Park, Dau Dang Waterfall, and Puong Cave, to name just a few. 

Ba Be National Park covers more than 7,600 ha and boasts ecological features typical of evergreen forests on limestone mountains, a mountain lake, and lowland evergreen forests. 

Within the national park, Ba Be Lake, the only natural lake in Vietnam surrounded by mountains and a special use forest system. has been recognized by UNESCO as a Ramsar site, an important wetland of the world.

There are also many traces and relics from Vietnam’s revolution in the 1940s. ATK, a complex of underground tunnels, is one of the most well-known destinations among these sights.

In addition to these tourist magnets, Bac Kan is also famous for the many traditional festivals of local ethnic minority groups. 

The highlight, the Ba Be Spring Festival, is held yearly on lunar January 10 at Po Lu hamlet, Nam Mau commune, with a ceremony and a festival. The ceremony prays for favorable rains and wind, peace for humankind, a good harvest, and a prosperous and happy life. 

The festival includes popular arts programs such as hat then, dan tinh khen dancing, and popular games such as tug of war, duck catching on the lake, dug-out canoe racing, and bull fighting, among others.
