The vitamin pills and the black peas.

Chairman of Cam Trung commune – Mr. Bui Xuan Dinh said the rare incident occurred on the morning of December 1 in Village 10. A health worker named Vo Van Hung mistakenly gave black beans to babies from six months to five years old, instead of Vitamin A pills.

After receiving Vitamin A pills, which looked exactly like black peas, some parents wondered and asked Hung about it but Hung confirmed: "This is imported product so it is very hard. If your baby cannot swallow it, you should chew it and mix it with water so your babies can swallow."

The debate was not finalized; some people called to officials of the health station.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, head of the health station of Cam Trung commune said that after detecting the mistake, all parents were informed of it.

Duc explained that after receiving vitamin A, Hung placed the pill bag near a black bean bag and he picked the wrong bag the next morning.

Cam Trung commune’s Chair Bui Xuan Dinh said that Hung is a new staff and his qualification is poor. “It is possible that we will have to fire him," Dinh added.

Vitamin A is delivered for free to Vietnamese kids from 6 months to 5 years old, twice a year (June 1 and December 1).
