On May 21, social media users widely shared a video showing rescue teams working to save a young elephant trapped in a deep pit at a mango farm in Tri An Ward, Dong Nai City, drawing significant public attention.
According to footage from the scene, the young elephant had fallen into a pit roughly 3 meters deep at a contracted mango plantation in Ba Hao neighborhood.
While trapped, the elephant appeared panicked and repeatedly attempted to climb out.
After discovering the incident, local residents immediately alerted authorities so that a rescue operation could be organized.
Upon receiving the report, forest rangers quickly arrived at the scene and coordinated with local authorities to launch an emergency rescue effort.
To ensure the animal’s safety, rescue teams used excavators and tractors to widen the edge of the pit and create a longer, gentler slope that would allow the elephant to climb out without becoming more frightened.
After nearly three hours of effort, the young elephant successfully climbed out of the pit in stable condition.
A representative of the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve said the elephant later returned safely to the forest and rejoined its herd, to the relief and joy of everyone involved.
