Dang Quang Huy, 66, and Bui Thi Le Thuan, 48 both confessed to the crime.
They would adopt babies in order to sell them after several days, police said.
The case was cracked open after police found a female baby around 25 days old at Thuan’s house on November 23.
She said she adopted her. Police later found out five handwritten papers revealing some young women volunteered to sell their babies to them.
The couple also ‘adopted’ children from different social centres and hospitals, where young mothers, mostly students, are willing to give them away for VND3 million (US$150) to VND5 million.
The duo then ‘priced’ the babies at between VND10 million to VND12 million each.
They have sold four out of five ‘adopted’ babies, according to police.
An investigation is underway to track down where the babies come from.
