VietNamNet Bridge – Mr. Nguyen Van San, a fisherman in Quy Nhon city of the central province of Binh Dinh caught a little shark on May 2.





Earlier, San released a net around 10m from the coast of Quy Nhon in the afternoon of May 1. He checked the net early on May 2 and caught a baby shark that was netted. The shark was still alive. The shark is 0.5m long, with belly diameter of around 20cm. San brought the fish to his home.

At 6.30am, San’s wife, Ms. Do Thi Hue, carried the fish to the Quy Nhon fish port and sold it for a trader, at the price of VND55,000/kg ($2.2).

According to local residents, sharks usually swim into Quy Nhon sea for reproduction. Last year, they caught two sharks.

However, sharks are a threat for tourists or swimmers. From 2009 to 2011, at least ten cases in which swimmers were attacked by sharks in Quy Nhon.

In 2010, the Ministry of Science and Technology assigned the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute to research and design shark prevention fishing equipment for Quy Nhon. The institute has introduced the fishing net-hook system, which has been recently installed on a trial basis in Quy Nhon city.
