VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s national badminton team will take part in the Axiata Cup 2013 in Indonesia and Malaysia from March 21-31.
The team will comprise key players from Ho Chi Minh City including Tien Minh, Hoang Nam, Bao Duc, Bao Minh, Nguyen Khang, Vu Thi Trang and Hong Gam.
Tien Minh is the country’s main hopeful in men’s singles event, while Vu Thi Trang will feature in the women’s singles, Bao Duc - Hong Gam in mixed doubles, and Bao Duc - Hoang Nam and Nguyen Khang - Bao Minh in the men’s doubles.
The Axiata Cup is divided into two stages, with the first in Surabaya (Indonesia) from March 21-24, and the second in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) from March 29-31.
Matches in the quarter-final and the final round will be held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) from April 13 to determine the champions.
Vietnam is scheduled to play its opening matches with Indonesia on March 21, facing players Sony Dwi Koncoro, Simon Santoso and Tommy Sugiarto. The country will take on the Philippines on March 23 and Thailand the following day.
Cup winners will receive US$400,000, while the second and the third place teams will win US$200,000 and US$150,000, respectively.
