VietNamNet Bridge – No 3 seed Vu Thi Trang of Viet Nam defeated Japanese Haruko Suzuki 21-17, 21-15 in the second round match of the Celcom Axiata Malaysia International Challenge badminton tournament yesterday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Trang needed only 38 minutes to beat her rival and booked a berth in the quarter-final round.

She will face No 5 seed Yen Mei Ho of Malaysia who beat Chinese Taipei Lin Ying Chun 21-12, 17-21, 21-16.

On the men’s side, No 1 seed Nguyen Tien Minh lost 21-13, 18-21, 21-12 to Indian Ramachandran Satheishtharan.

Undeeded Satheishtharan will next meet Malaysian Soo Teck Zhi, seeded No 8. Soo defeated No 11 Andre Marteen of Indonesia 21-15, 21-18.

Vietnamese duo Bao Minh and Duong Bao Duc were defeated 16-21, 21-19, 15-21 by Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif and Watchara Buranakuea of Malaysia.
