Recently, Miss Ethnic Vietnam 2011, Trieu Thi Ha, said that she returned her crown because of abuse she suffered by the organisers. She also complained that the organisers failed to promote her image and did not honour the terms of their contract.
Hong said, "Before the final night of competition, all contestants signed an agreement that they would attend social and charity events as required by CIAT Advertising and Trade Fair JSC but Ha didn't fulfill her duties. The organisers had been unable to contact her. Ha's family said she was no longer staying at home and Thai Nguyen University told us she was no longer attending classes."
CIAT Company contacted the Ministry of Public Security and was told that Ha was living in HCM City. According to Hong, on March 15 last year, Ha met with organisers, admitted she had neglected her duties and tried to explain why she had been unavailable between June 2012 and March 2013. Hong went on to say that the winner of a beauty contest should not see it as a path to a luxurious life without work.
When asked whether the organisers had forced Ha to greet and receive guests at events late into the night, Hong said, "Trieu Thi Ha made this up. She didn't receive any phone calls or emails after the contest. She was missing for almost a year, so how could we force her to do anything?"
Hong said the real reason Ha returned the crown had to do with her love life. After the contest, according to Hong, Ha had a complicated love life involving Hong's nephew which caused her to neglect her duties. Hong said she had tried to keep Ha's image intact and beseeched the couple to think carefully about the future, but Ha did not listen. "This concerns my family, my brother and my nephew so I never wanted to talk about it, but the situation has forced me to. At the time, Ha hadn't graduated and my nephew was also involved with another girl," she said.

Hong said Ha had agreed to end the relationship and continue her duties, but later went missing. After the organising board asked police to locate her, Ha wrote a similar again signed a letter of commitment, but went missing yet again. In 2013, Ha returned the crown, but the news was not published because Hong wanted to give Ha another chance. Besides, Hong said there were several scandals surrounding beauty contests at the time.
On May 22, Trieu Thi Ha met with leaders of the Department of Performing Arts to explain the problem but Hong said she had not known about this.
