VietNamNet Bridge – Swarms of black-bean beetle insects that swoop down on houses of people in Minh Long Village in the southern province of Binh Phuoc have made life very uncomfortable, often forcing them to seek shelter elsewhere.

For more than one month, households in Minh Long Village, Chon Thanh District have been living in a state of anxiety due to these insects.

The thick swarms of beetles have turned local people's lives upside down with many choosing to shift to some other place temporarily.

Giang Si Hung, living at hamlet 3, said black-bean beetle flew into his house in big numbers. "These ugly beetles stick to the ceiling, walls and appear everywhere in my house, in the kitchen and the living room," he said.

"We must spray mosquito repellent and insecticide or burn mosquito-repellent coil to kill the beetles. All the family members suffer sleepless nights due to this epidemic," he said.

Another farmer said his thatched house is in danger of collapsing. "All household stuff is covered by black-bean beetle."

Swarms of beetles threaten the lives of poor famers as several people have to build leaf tents for temporary stay.

According to the Dong Nai Province's Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the beetles often appear in some southern provinces such as HCM City, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong in the rainy season.

Although beetle isn't harmful to plants, but it obstructs the activities of humans and animals, as black-bean beetle causes a very uncomfortable feeling, triggering fears.
